Ice Maker Stopped Making Ice: Water, Filter, and Fill Tube

What this usually means

No ice usually starts with water, not the ice maker. Check the supply valve is open, the line is not kinked behind the fridge, and the filter is not overdue, because a clogged filter starves the fill. A frozen fill tube, where water enters the mold, is the classic fault after a filter change or a temperature swing, and it shows as no ice with water everywhere else working. Small or hollow cubes point to low water pressure or a weak inlet valve, while stale-tasting ice points to an old filter or strong food odours in the freezer. Standalone ice makers add a drain and condenser coil to the checklist. Do not chip ice out of a frozen tube with a sharp tool, which punctures lines and turns a small job into a leak.

What to check safely

If the fridge is otherwise cooling well and only ice is missing, say so on the call, along with the brand and whether the ice maker is in the door or in the freezer. That narrows the parts list before anyone travels.

• Note the symptom, when it started, and whether it is getting worse.
• Check filters, hoses, seals, and vents only where you can do so safely, with power or water off where needed.
